Absolutely! There is no valid reason to ever do so.
Yes, it is a violation of federal law to possess such a firearm. No matter what you paid for it or how you got it, don't try to keep it or you will pay the price.
Yes it is illegal to own a gun that does not have a serial number. It is also illegal to remove the serial number off a gun.
If it was a firearm originally manufactured without a serial number (serial numbers weren't required on firearms in the US until the passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968), then no. However, a firearm which originally had a serial number and had it removed - very much illegal.
IF it HAS a serial number, it will be stamped on the receiver (frame) usually on the left side (as you are holding the shotgun). However, serial numbers were not required by law on shotguns and rifles until the 1968 Gun Control Act. Prior to that most low cost firearms were not sequentially numbered, due to the cost to the maker. It is not illegal to own a firearm without a serial number, but it IS illegal to remove a serial number, or possess a gun whose serial number has been removed.
if your 1911 frame does not show a serial number then someone removed it and in so doing made the frame illegal. ATF regs require firearms to have serial number and if that serial # was removed the frame is the considered illegal to posses. however, the parts are NOT illegal and may be used to build another 1911 using another frame.
Well, it is not illegal to GET the serial number. What is illegal is to use it to pirate material that is not registered to you.
On what?? Many firearms before 1968 did not have serial #'s.
It MAY not have one. Serial numbers are placed on the receiver (frame) of all firearms- legally the receiver IS the firearm- everything else is simply "parts". However, prior to the 1968 Gun Control Act, no law required serial numbers on rifles and shotguns- and most low- middle cost guns HAD no serial number. While it is highly illegal to REMOVE a serial number, if a gun never had one, it is perfectly legal.
is that the serial number of a model A ford ?? or firearms ?? If a firearm, who made it and what is the model ????
First, I think you mean register. In MOST of the US, there is no requirement to register ordinary firearms. Now, about the serial number- it is unlawful to REMOVE a serial number, or to possess a gun that has had the SN removed. However, there are guns that do not HAVE a serial number, and they are legal. Rifles and shotguns made prior to 1968 were not required to have serial number. Those guns are listed as NSN- No Serial Number- on paperwork that asks for a serial number.
is that the serial number of a model A ford ??? or firearm?? If a firearm, which firearms, who made it and what model............?????
some firearms were produced without serial number, but as of 1968 all firearms are SUPPOSED to have a serial number. I don't believe any 38 specials were made without a serial number, unless of foreign make......................
Firearms built prior to 1969 weren't required to have a serial number, and many didn't. Nixon signed the law requiring all firearms to have serial numbers in 1969.
