Answer
No.
Answer
A flat no is an issue.
Girls can be injured as can boys by being struck in the genital area of their body. I have officiated sports for over fifteen years and have observerd many times, a female catcher being struck in the genital area by a foul ball, wild pitch, player(foot) to player(genital) contact during a sliding play at home plate, etc. Girls do not bounce right up and say "it did not hurt". They like boys fall to the ground and express their degree of pain.
In none of the rule books from Little League up and through NSA, USSSA, ASA and college that I use to officiate by, does it even mention any requirement for protecting girl/female catchers, but in each of the above mentioned rule books there is a definite rule requiring the boy/male catchers to wear an athletic supporter and cup (plastic or metal).
Is the male human being so much more prone to injury in the genital area than the female human being?
Girls athletes are as competitive and athletic as boys. they also play with enthusiasm, ability and competativeness, so why not protect them both with a "safety rule"?
