Is it normal for the area around your belly button piercing to be dark and raised?

I have been searching for an answer to this as well because I am pregnant (30 weeks) and have the same thing... Please let me know if you have found any info, I will continue to search and if I find anything I will keep you posted. Helen Chapman (helendavies@webmail.co.za) I am 8 months pregnant and about 4 moths along I started getting a dark line all the way down the middle of my belly from just under my breasts all the way to the bottom of my belly. This is very common, healthy, and normal. Therefore, getting a dark ring around your naval might have something to do with the same thing. Yes it is very common, about 40% of women get it. It is called the linea nigra (black line)

∙ 13y agoNo its not normal. This happened to me and i went back to the place i got it done and they told me it was beginning to get infected. So all you have to do is go and get some antibiotic ointment. you'll be fine in about a week just put that on 2 times a day.
NO. Do not use ANY ointment. Just go to your Piercer or family doctor and see what they have to say about it.

It sounds like you may be reacting to the cleaning product you are using, stop using the product and just rinse the piercing under running water while moving the jewellery back and forth. The water will draw any irritants out of the piercing, allow the piercing to dry normally and don't apply anything else to the piercing for a couple of days while doing the fore mentioned rinsing. The red lump should ease and disappear in 24 to 48 hours, if so then you have found your problem.
