Is spotting at 4-5 weeks pregnant normal?

I am five weeks pregnant and I had a bit of brown spotting the day after I got a positive on the home pregnancy test, and then a deep red spot a couple of days later. Now it has reverted to light coffee brown again, and it doesn't happen often, only when I've been to the loo. I can go a few days without spotting and then for no reason it appears again. I don't know if this is normal or not, but look at it this way. For every person who sadly miscarries, there has to be someone who doesn't. That's what I keep telling myself anyway ! Good luck x

Normally the Doppler used to "hear" the babies heart can detect it around 10 weeks,longer if the patient is obese, slightly less if she is thin. The ultasound machines can usually see the hear at around 8 weeks, but this is variable too since some of the small portable machines cost about $25,000 and some of the ones in the hospital give much better pictures but cost over $250,000.

Yes. Some doctors won't even do an ultrasound till at least 5 weeks. If you know for sure that you are pregnant, it is probably not going to be your period, although some women have experienced a "first" period then learns a couple of weeks later that they really are pregnant. It is possible that it could be implantation bleeding caused by the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterine wall. Or it could be a cervical change that can cause vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding can also be a symptom of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. Another cause for bleeding during pregnancy is a miscarriage although the first two reasons for bleeding are more common, it is still a good idea to contact your doctor if you are too concerned. some vaginal bleeding is normal...they cant always see the heartbeat that early in a pregnancy...i would call my doctor and ask any questions you have... it just may be to early for them to see the heartbeat.. i see this issue a lot and most of the time everything is OK.. It sounds like you have been to the doctor already and if anything was wrong with your baby or your doctor had any suspicions of something being wrong he/she would have told you and would have sent you for further tests. Sounds like everything is just fine.

Hello. Its difficult to say. What may be normal for you may not be normal for another woman. Any pregnancy bleeding needs to be investigated. See your doctor or go to hospital asap.

If your talking about being pregnant and 4 weeks then spotting blood no but if its like a discharg and not pink then its totally normal. i hope i helped.

It is ok to just see a fetal pole without heartbeat at 6w0d but in the next few days a heartbeat should be found. I am an Ultrasound tech, and I see this all the time.

Well im 7 weeks pregnant and at 5 weeks i started spotting that's how i found out i was pregnant! If its not enough blood to use a pad then i believe you should be ok. Hope that helps
