Absolutely NOT! WD-40 is a lubricant. The last thing you want to put on a drive belt is a lubricant. If the belt is making a noise, it is either loose or worn out.
The alternator generates electricity, so it's not part of the starting system, which uses the stored electricity in the battery. If the lights work, the battery must be pretty well ok. The starter might be stuck, or it might have failed.
Do the headlamps work while cranking the starter? If not focus on your battery and cables. Jump start the car and have the system tested before you throw more dollar bills at this problem; it could be the alternator but have it tested first.
It could be too loose. Old belts become slick and may not grip like they should. Worn pulley could do it too. Check the tension. If it's OK, they have commercial sprays that help the belt grip better.
That's a trick question right? Answer, there is no fan belt, the Solara fan is electric. Ok, you were probably referring to the serpentine belt. I went to the Autoparts Warehouse website and looked up the belt for the 6 cylinder engine. The price is about $17 for two brands (on sale) up to about $30 for a brand name. Pricing should be about the same at your local auto parts store. Hint, when replacing the serpentine belt, make a diagram of the path of your original before removing it. That will save a lot of head scratching later as you try to figure out how to route the new belt. Cheers
Ok, so your a black belt but don't feel like devoting your life to your martial art, that's fine, but if you don't want to make a comitment tell your teacher about it and explain why, don't rush it, chill. Martial arts is a sport not your life.
ok there isn't a fan belt. there is a belt that does the altanator and water pump, and another belt that does ac/power steering. your better off replaceing both at the same time. you have to just loosen the bolts that go to the part and some of them you can only see from under neath the car. then you should be able to take both off and replace them. its a pain in the butt to get the v belt back on. very tight fit Yes, there is an alternator belt. Yes, there is a power steering belt. However, the alternator belt is commonly referred to as a fan belt. As he said, the v belt (that is, the fan/alternator belt) has a very tight fit. If you loosen the alternator enough, though, it's not too hard to put on.The first thing you do is take off the power steering belt. You have to loosen the belt to do this, though. Once you've taken off the belt, loosen the alternator. Once it is moving freely, the alternator belt will come off relatively easily, especially if you have a screwdriver or a tool designed for that purpose (it has a name, but I remember not what it is). Now put the new alternator belt onto the pulleys made for it (you will probably need the afformentioned tool for this; I have every time, as far as I remember). Tighten the alternator and make SURE that the belt is also tight. If the belt is not tight enough, it will break and you can have a very, very bad problem on your hands. When that is done, put back on the power steering belt, or put on the new one, if you do them both at the same time (as he said, it's a good idea). You will probably need the tool used on the alternator belt to do this. Once you've made sure that the belt is fit properly onto the pulleys, tighten it.Now you're done, or, at least, I hope you are. Good luck!
Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery.

no need for battery disconnect. i believe it is the water pump/alternator batter. simplehow to change alternator beltThat is fairly easy I had the same problem it took me a while hopefully my help will take you less time. ok first off you should already know to disconnect the neg. on your battery. there are two bolts one is located on the top right, and one at the bottem left losen these two bolts and that should let your alternator slide forward, next you will find two pulleys on one rod next to the front right tire turn your alternator belt where the groves are facing up toward the engine and use a large crescent wrench to turn the front pulley turn un till half the belt is be hind the belt on the first pulley then all you need to do is run the belt up to the engine pulley and then around your alternator tighten the alternator back down and then reconecct your battery and drive away
I would suspect one of two things. Either the replacement belt is not the correct size or the belt tensioner is bad. The squealing sounds like a loose belt which would also account for the battery light. possible bad battery causing the alternator to work too hard
first disconnect the negative battery terminal, remove the aux belt, unbolt the power steering pump(only the bolts not the lines ok) just move itout of the way so you could get to the alternator bolts, undo all the alternator bolts and wires and replace it.
Easy, if the belt tension is good to drive the alternator and engine accessories it's ok. If the belt does not maintain proper tension, or it's making noise replace the tensioner. There is no user adjustment. I like the NAPA part as oem replacement.
