I am 33 years old and 13 weeks pregnant. I was given a Rx yesterday for magnesium 400mg for migrane headaches. it was the only safe drug they could try to give me some relief while pregnant. This was also Rx by a nuerologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Hope this helps.

∙ 12y agoDepends how badly you need it and if nothing else works. Magnesium citrate is pregnancy category C by the FDA. Magnesium citrate should only be given during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

∙ 11y agoYes, this a class b drug in ptegnancy when taken orally. Magnesium citrate should only be taken when the benefits clearly out weigh the risks. Typical dosage is somewhere between 200-400mg. Possible side effects include excessive thirst, diarrhea, heart palpitations, renal failure due to magnesium build up which can lead to cardiac arrest.
