There are several things to consider such as pets (if they are staying home), food in the cupboards, how long you will be away, is your home insulated properly, and costs incurred from heating a home unnecessarily. Generally during colder temperatures,especially if it is freezing or below outside, most people will choose to leave their thermostats set to between 60 and 68 degrees F. Keeping the house at around room temperature is not only good if you have pets staying home, but keeps any food in the cupboards from freezing if temperatures dip down low enough to do so. Depending on how long you will be gone, and if your home has proper insulation, the costs incurred won't be in excess, and you won't return to a freezing home.
