The contractions is what hurts the most according to what women say but prepare yourself is the best thing. Talk to your midwife and go through all the options of dealing with the pain. It's good to be informed.

Yes! youre squeezing a person through a tiny part of your body! But dont worry! You're in pain for a matter of small time - seconds, minutes, hours, even a few days - but then you have a gorgeous child for life!

If you have or very large child, or give birth to little linebackers, it can be very painful for a while. The good news, is your body is flooded with endorphins and other hormones right afterwards, and when you see your baby thru that mist of hormones and Mother love, you forget about it, at least for the first few days of bonding. By then, the pain generally settles down to extremely uncomfortable and your new best friend is something really soft to sit on.

Walk, walk, walk, and do your pelvic ligament stretches to minimize the discomfort of delivery . Don't take any medication if you are nursing with out checking with your Doctor first.

Yes, first a woman has contractions. Contractions of the uterus can start, off and on, a month before delivery. When contractions get to 2 minutes apart, a woman goes to the hospital. (Sooner if it is her 2nd or 3rd baby). Contractions for a first-time pregnancy can go on for 24 hours non-stop. Contractions, which are a little bit like a muscle spasm, are incredibly strong and help move the baby down the birth canal. Most women moan, groan, or even scream from the pain. It is agonizing to push a 6 pound or bigger baby out of the vagina! As contractions increase in time and intensity, the woman must start pushing--kind of like having a really hard bowel movement, except it may take many times to push the baby out. Many women find it helpful to breathe deeply and carmly! But there is still considerable pain. Some women need a medication to block the most intense pain. Other women choose no medication for "natural childbirth".

The vagina literally gets stretched beyond anything it's felt before, from normally about the size of a Golf ball to that of a softball.

Emphasis on squeezing a softball out of a hole the size of golf ball.

The elasticity of skin makes external damage minimal, but like an elastic once stretched it's much bigger then before.

If you have a vaginal birth, then it is very painful, but there are options available for pain relief.

Overview: Scientists know it is impossible for people to "compare" pain. Feeling pain is a unique experience that occurs in the brain as a result of a physical stimulus. Some people have a higher tolerance of pain than do other people. Some people might pass out from having intestinal gas pains, while other people can cope with a bone fracture. Physicians have not yet unraveled the mysteries of how the brain works or why pain affects some people more than others. As to the comparison of scrotal pain to childbirth, the only one fact is: Hormones during labor make women almost completely forget the actual childbirth pain, except that it was exquisitely painful. But women again get pregnant, showing that the physical recall of childbirth pain has not been put into memory like other pain is. Men, on the other hand, seem to recall vividly the physical pain of being hurt in the scrotum. They would never put themselves back into a similar situation, like women do with becoming pregnant more than once.

Male point of view: Let's just say that I would rather die by being stabbed in the heart or being beheaded, hanged or burnt to death then having my scrotum kicked a couple of times or having them strongly squeezed. They are pretty much organs, and it makes my balls and heart hurt just thinking about the pain. Kidney stones are much less painful than being kicked in the balls or especially balls being squeezed and kidney stones are more painful than childbirth. I rather you kill me then squeeze my balls, though many can probably die from the squeeze alone anyway, never mind crushing or ripping them off(internally).... While childbirth is natural and most of the time you survive and in good health and in today's day and age they give you anesthetics in which you feel hardly any pain at all... don't even compare them. I heard ovaries could hurt as much as testicles though, has anyone gotten kicked in the ovaries?

Female point of view: There are numerous indignations women go through well before the labor pain intensifies. Our privates are shaved; we must have an enema so we don't have a bowel movement with pushing the baby out. We must put up with strangers looking at our vaginas AND inserting their (gloved) fingers high into our vaginas to see how dilated the cervix has become. Labor continues to become harder pain--like being kicked in the guts every 2 minutes, then every minute. This goes on for HOURS, hours and hours! Some women can be in labor up to 24 hours for their first baby! TWENTY FOUR HOURS OF NON-STOP PAIN (unless, of course, you would rather not feel from the waist down, need a urinary catheter inserted between your legs, and need a bedpan to move your bowels. You won't feel your legs; you wouldn't be able to wipe your own anus, because you can't feel it.) But meds cannot be given until the cervix has dilated enough--so you'll still have pain for many hours!!

With no meds, by 5 hours you begin to dread the labor pain. Every contraction takes your breath away! Women often cry or scream during the hard labor. Not just scream one time, but many screams over hours. (While men only feel a couple minutes of intense pain, women withstand horrific pain from belly button to bottom for hours, unrelenting, over and over.) There comes a point in labor that women are so exhausted---but still must deal with pain every minute. The ribcage starts to hurt from breathing so heavily. Once a doctor says you can push, pushing is almost worse than the hours of contractions!! After a few pushes, most women are BEGGING for the doctor to pull the baby out! But that can hurt the baby. If lucky, some women only have to push once or twice. Other women push much, much longer! The "pain" ends when the baby is born---but then, you hurt from your head to toes (headache, muscle aches). And they sliced open your privates (episiotomy) so you now have stitches on one side of your vagina--the stitches sting, burn, itch. Oh---and they still need to remove the urinary catheter---that is more like the short intense pain of being "kicked in the balls". And, just wait till your first bowel movement after labor--most women are constipated, and pushing when you have stitches and are sore down there is no walk in the park!

Guys, we know that your pain is intense. But it only lasts a few minutes. (Your memory of it lasts longer.) But you'll never, ever compare that to labor and childbirth pain that can go on for 24 hours! Plus, at least you don't have someone inspecting your scrotum while you are in pain, putting a urinary catheter in, or giving you an enema while you are doubled over in excruciating pain! Sorry guys, women win this argument, hands down.

Neither having a baby or being hit in the balls is more painful than the other. They are a different kind of pain and the tolerance level of people can vary.
