I am curntly researching the same thing. Be careful, apparently many posters have pointed people towards "silver foxes". Breeders that sell the wild animal as a pet.
I assume, especially by your use of "American", that you are referring to the true domesticated silver fox. It was recently reported that the experiment in Russia will be shut-down and that the researchers are selling off the foxes. Considering how valuable the resesearch animals are...(in regards to several fields) I wouldn't be suprised if they sold the domesticated foxes.
Also, to stop any future posts by people unfamiliar with this topic.
These are DOMESTICATED foxes. It was a research experiment where they actually domesticated the foxes. These are not wild animals. Do not post "you cannot tame a wild animal". You CANNOT tame a wild animal(individual), but you can breed wild animals until they are tame.(as a group).
If you are able to purchase these animals, I would recommend buying a breeding pair. Last I heard they only had about 800 of the domestic foxes, and they are reducing that number. I would imagine that even if these are purchased by domestic breeders, it would take awhile to build a population large enough to be sold.
