You certainly should be able to. Contact your local board of education for the requirements. They will include the material that must be covered and how they validate the success.
Answer
It depends on whether the student is going to be reliable and work on the project with you within that time period. I personally found it worth the money to send mine to summer school for the few weeks it required to retake the class.
