If you bump into your ex at a social gathering or on the street there isn't any harm in having a little chat, but if you mean on a more personal level (phoning or emailing each other or meeting for coffee or drinks) that's not really right if you have a new boyfriend or if your ex has a new girlfriend. It's best to leave it alone.
If in doubt, how would you like your boyfriend talking to his ex girlfriend?
