A 60mg morphine pill will likely be sustained release (also known as extended release or controlled release) which means that it has a mechanism for slowly releasing morphine. You can look up the pill on the internet, the manufacturers prescribing info will tell you if its okay to cut in half. If its immediate release, it should be fine. It is sustained release, cutting it in half could cause a sudden release of 30mg morphine (instead of a slow release over 12 hours for example). This could cause a fatal overdose. .. Yes i do it all the time, as long as you dont smear the tablet with bacteria, make sure everything is swabbed and clean (if your injecting)

∙ 15y agoThe answer to that question is relative, anyone in the medical community is obligated to tell you that it is not safe and is not advisable. From a reality standpoint, 15 mg of morphine is a relatively small dose and would not likely hurt you or cause you harm. Understand though, that when you cut a controlled release pill in half, it is NO LONGER controlled release, all 15 mg of morphine will be released immediately. Doing so is not a safe practice, and for higher mg concentrations of the same medicine, i.e., 60mg or 120mg, it can be fatal if you break the pill before swallowing.

∙ 13y agoMany of the morphine pills are continual release or extended release therefore cutting, chewing or crushing them would be very dangerous as you would get a faster release of the medication. It could cause a fatal overdose.
