Not as long as you still have your period and is fertile. It can be a bit late to start having your first child but it's still possible. The risks are greater of course, to get a child with Down's Syndrome for instance. If you do start at this age and there is a risk of not succeeding you can take a look at adoption. I believe there's a age limit for when you are allowed to apply so it's good to know the rules of your other options just in case.

Well, here is one statistic just looking at Down's Syndrome and age: "The chance of having a baby with Down's syndrome increases with maternal age. The risks are calculated as follows: 25 years old: one in 1,400 30 years old: one in 800 35 years old: one in 380 38 years old: one in 190 40 years old: one in 110 45 years old: one in 30" From this website: http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/pregnancy/tests/articles/0,,9_161522,00.html Hope this is helpful. The risk of delivering a Downs syndrom baby is slightly elevated, other than that, if she's otherwise healthy there probably aren't any specific risks involved. It is perfectly safe if you are in good health. Just be sure to eat a well balanced dite and get check ups. You might be better off talking with a Midwife instead of a doctor. I would look around and find a good Midwife and talk to her before I got pregnant. Unless you all ready are then still look around for a Midwife. They are a lot more understanding than most doctors and she should be happy to talk with you about your plans. Give you tips on what you can do to have a good pregnancy and birth centers are a lot nicer to labor/deliver in than hospitals. Midwifes seem to have more time to spend with you. While doctors have so many things to worry about Midwifes worry about you. You can even have the option to water birth and I have heard this is great for pain management. (I didn't get to try it as my labor was to fast) I would do some searches on Google for Midwifes and birth centers in your area and go check them out. Good luck to you.

Yes, a woman can be safe to have a pregnancy at the age of 50. However, she would need to be monitored closely by a doctor. She is more at risk for a multiple birth, chromosomal abnormalities, and premature birth but it is possible for her to have a safe pregnancy.
