There are other side effects of that type of medicine so if you do not have a good reason to take it your should try to stop. You can lose weight, eat lower fat smaller meals, elevate your head at night, avoid caffeine, avoid Motrin and similar medicines, avoid alcohol and avoid spicy or acidic foods to decrease your need for it. You may also be able to "step down" to medicines such as Pepcid or Zantac which may be safer and are certainly cheaper.
On the other hand, under-treated acid problems can cause ulcers (and fatal bleeding), esophageal cancer, esophageal strictures and a lot of discomfort so you should discuss with your doctor whether you really do need these meds.
