In the early years, between 94-95, Jerry actually had GOOD topics. Lost loves, reuniting people, really good topics. Then it turned really bad. Every single show had fights. Totally predictable. In addition, just how many people are going to go on national TV to be humiliated and find out their boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating, and here the other person is! Not many want that kind of public humiliation. Of course the fights drive the ratings. The stories and fights are fake.

∙ 11y agoThe people are usually real, but they are encouraged to misbehave by the show's producers, who egg them on. Sometimes you get people who lie about their circumstances to they can get a free trip and get paid, but most people on that show really are that ridiculous.
Yeah, he's real. But the guests on his show are all phony.

∙ 13y agoNo it is not. Although "some" of the folks on the show MUST be aware that they are going to be on the show and their wife & best friend just happen to be there also......
I'm sure there is a degree of "knowing" that is going on, like when you're speeding, come over a hill and there's a cop....you kind of "knew" that was gonna happen.
But some idiots suggest these people are actors and get paid! Absolutely NOT!

If you are referring to him as a person, he has a long history of being involved in politics, and he even ran successfully for office in Cincinnati (where he was elected mayor in 1977 and served one term). But if you are asking about his infamous talk show, that is scripted reality TV, where guests are encouraged to be confrontational, and to fight with each other; Springer serves as the host, but some would say he is more the ringmaster, on a show that is often reminiscent of professional Wrestling.
