Yes. Males in the Republic of Korea are required to serve two years of compulsory military service, and are subject to recall for eight years afterwards. Military service is also mandatory in the DPRK (North Korea).
If you are a male South Korean citizen it is. Depending on the service you join, obligation spans from 2 to 4 years and is usually served between the ages of 18-25. Those who are deemed unfit for the military (e.g. obese) usually must fill some other governmental position (e.g. secretary) for 2 years to meet their obligation.
