The "Nature vs. Nurture" debate has been a hot topic argued among scientists since the 13th century. Many behavioral studies have been conducted and scientific advances have led scientists to discover certain "behavioral" genes. However, the studies have proven both sides of the argument hold a great deal of merit. There is of to date no solid answer as to which side impacts a person's development more.
Heredity involves the transmission of characteristics from biological parents to their offspring via genes at the time of conception. Environment is used to refer to all the experiences, objects, and events to which we are exposed throughout our entire lifetime. Some environmental factors that influence psychological development include whether you have brothers or sisters, how you are brought up, you friendship groups, schooling, occupation, income level, whether you have a partner, your religion, ethnic origins what you are exposed to in the media, whether you experience a major stressful sociocultural factors.
Answer
One view is that personality is largely determined by environment. Heredity determines what we are at conception, but the 'environment' means 'external' learning, i.e. what we learn after conception.
In the womb, the developing embryo/fetus is learning, though far from consciously so. Certainly from birth onward the personality is gradually and continually being developed as a result of the influence of ongoing environmental factors upon the inherited personality traits and characteristics.
Given the huge impact that environment has on learning and personality, the first few years of a child's life are very important in the development of personality.
However, there are numerous theories about the interaction of nature (heredity, genes) and nurture (environmental factors, social influences, etc.) on personality. Many scientists agree that both have an impact on an individuals personality, although some believe that it is either one or the other.
Answer
Many studies have shown that personality is a result of genetics AND environment.
There are actually genetic disorders which cause people to have happy-go-lucky, extroverted dispositions (see Angel Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Downs Syndrome). This is a result of certain genes being left-out of a gene sequence or altered. If a gene influences personality that much, it seems to imply, that genes have a part in personality development.
Answer
Judging from my own family, and I've heard this from other families, genetics has a heavy hand in personality. How many times have I heard my mother say, 'You're just like my mother' or my father's mother or her aunt so and so. My grandmothers and those relatives had passed away before I was born, and they were from opposite sides of the family. It was not what I was doing or saying that evoked this response from her by how I was doing or saying something.
I believe that it isn't the influence of genetics or environment but a combination; we respond to environmental factors in a way directed by our inherited nature.
Answer
Yes. One of the main components of personality is actually hereditary. But it's just ONE, and even hereditary things do not always manifest.
The discovery of the Science of Epigenetics shows that the Environment can and will exert influence on the expression or non-expression of segments [genes] that are contained within our {otherwise strictly internally controlled} Cromatin.
Both are important, but you can only change the environmental conditions - you're stuck with your hereditary ones.

The two examples of the influence of heredity on personality are intelligence of a child and a child being timid or courageous. This will be determined by the environment that a child is subjected to.
It's probubly from the environment
Heredity versus environment, or nature versus nurture, is the argument about how much of our characteristics are ingrained in our genetics and how much of them are created as a result of the life we lead. There is no clear answer to the problem of heredity versus environment.
The person's behavior is strongly influenced by both the environment and heredity.
In plants, the factors are heredity, nutrition, and environment. In animals, the factors are heredity, nutrition, environment, and exercise.

Heredity and environment are the two primary influences on the development of a child. Heredity is what the child is born with and environment is everything else. These things in themselves neither hinder nor help a child "socialy in development". Understanding the effects of these influences on child development helps us learn how children grow and learn. This in turn, assists those of us who are interested improve the lives of children and the adults they become.
