Pete Townshend has never really had any religious beliefs. He did get into spirituality, especially in the late 1960s. He became a great supporter of Meher Baba, an Indian mystic and spiritual master, and incorporated some of his ideas into The Who's lyrics. Examples of this include the Tommy album, the song 'Bargain' and also 'Love Reign O'er Me'.
