There are literally tons of causes for pink eye. There are viral and bacterial causes of pink eye. If you suspect that you have a case of pink eye due to exposure to fecal matter, it's probably due to the viral strand, which is very contagious and can be passed down from one person to another easily. For example, if someone were to fart on a pillow, and you layed on that pillow, and they were carrying a virus of pink eye in their fecal matter (their body getting rid of it), you too could become infected very easily.
Not to say that fecal matter is the only way you can get pink eye... It's basically a virus that you can get from any toxins.
When it gets right down to it.. pink eye is due to your eye trying to get the bad guys out of their, it's a defense system. The watering is trying to flush out the "bad guys" so they won't attack the cornea.
See a doctor if you have pink eye, and it should go away in a few days up to a week.

Note that conjunctvitis can, over time, damage the eye or conjunctiva, so you do need to get it treated. Also, it's very contagious, so make a real point of washing your hands a LOT.

∙ 14y agommmmm..... NO! the bacteria in your anus is not at all connected to symptoms of pink eye. they are there simply to decompose your food and SHOVE IT OUT YOUR BUTT
actually, any bacteria that gets in your eye is fair game to cause pinkeye, but most common the bacteria that cause pinkeye are normal on the skin/in the mouth. Good hand hygiene is essential in preventing these types of infections.

∙ 9y agoPink eye (conjunctivitis) is generally spread from poor hygiene such as sharing towels. However, if you somehow get fecal matter in your eye that contains the bacteria that causes conjunctivitis, then yes, you can develop conjunctivitis.
