Psychiatry is a medical discipline as far as the treatment of a mental disorder is concerned.

As far as the diagnostic process is concerned it is a philosophical discipline since the diagnosis of a mental disorder can only be evaluated by pondering in mind if certain psycho-pathological phenomena (gr. phenomenon - that which appears) are present or not.
In this sense psychiatry is a philosophical discipline.
