no alcohol is never used for open sores. A much better product would be hydrogen peroxide. It is almost the same as water...Water is H2O and Hydrogen Peroxide is H2O2. By using hydrogen peroxide, a person is actually pouring an extra oxygen molecule into the wound and this can kill off many of the germs that do not thrive in an oxygen-filled environment. Above all, any and all wounds should first be thoroughly cleansed with soap and water and a generous amount of flushing with the tap water.

Rubbing alcohol contains ethanol, which destroys the membranes of bacteria, killing it off. It also destroys many of the cells of your body at the site of the wound, but in the end your body wins :D

Really, you're as far along cleaning out wounds with mild soap and water, use alcohol sparingly, and in sever cases -->see a Doctor!

Always good advice to see a Doctor however

Rubbing alcohol.. contains Isopropyl alcohol (also propan-2-ol, 2-propanol or the abbreviation IPA), C3H8O molecular formula C3H8O, and varies in concentration ...does not contain ethanol: molecular formula C2H5OH; empirical formula C2H6O

It's better than nothing, but it is likely to hurt like the devil. It would be better to use hydrogen peroxide, followed by Neosporin and a band-aid.

You can, but I must warn you: it will be PAINFUL. I would recommend using hydrogen peroxide. Just don't use too much of either. Good Luck!

Can you boil rubbing alcohol?

I am not sure about using alcohol; however, I can share with you depending on where the boil is located, soaking the area in warm water with Epsom salts, or a warm sitz bath is very effective in bringing the boil to a head. Hydrogen Peroxide is helpful if the boil is open. Many boils have to be lanced to allow the puss and infection to be released, whereby, the warm water/Epsom salt soaks/baths are more effective. The Epsom salt and warm water help to draw out the puss and encourage healing.

What happens if you pour diesel on an open wound?

No flames, no sparks, nothing. Its much like rubbing alcohol, or Iodine. It simply causes horrific pain, and often unbearable after pain. The substance of the diesel is said to spark up with the bodily fluids and cause a chemical reaction. This is not true, no way could any bodily fluid start any internal flames, or else we'd be in major trouble. The diesel will simply imply everlasting pain, or so it seems. Do not try

Can rubbing alcohol in the bath water affect the internal body?

The answer to this depends on two factors. First, the ratio of rubbing alcohol to water in the bath. The second would be if the person in the bath has any open sores that can allow the alcohol to enter the bloodstream. In low amounts and with no way for the alcohol to enter the body, the bath will be fine.

What is 'Rubbing Alcohol'?

Isopropyl (or methyl) alcohol (or possibly ethyl alcohol) normally has the name "rubbing alcohol" applied to it. It is alcohol suitable for external use only; it's not safe for consumption. It is packaged with a bit of water, and the alcohol content varies from one manufacturer to another. It's between 70% and 95% alcohol depending who the supplier is.Rubbing alcohol can be used as a cooling rub for patients, or as an antiseptic. Note that alcohol should not be used as a disinfectant in an open wound -- it's painful and not great with disinfecting wounds.its alcohol that you rub on your skin and it gets you wasted.

Does rubbing alcohol do anything if for example an toddler hits his head on a table and you rub it on his head?

I believe that rubbing alcohol should be for cleaning certain wounds, such as helping to relieve the itch of mosquito bites, etc. I would be careful about putting it on a toddler without checking with a medical person. I find that your neighbor Pharmacist will be helpful in ansewring a lot of non-threatening basic health questions. If the child had a cut, the alcohol is a powerful disinfectant and can be used to clean wounds, but otherwise no. It does nothing to the child. However, if someone has an open cut that needs cleaning, you should use hydrogen peroxide instead because it stores easier, has no odor, and is a lot less painful on contact to open skin! Alcohol on an open cut can hurt quite a bit!
