Is sympathomimetic a narcotic?

Answer:
yes and no. For the DEA, these may be called narcotics. NO! The word "narcotic" means "to sleep or make to sleep", so these drugs (mostly amphetamines) don't fall into that category. When a cop asks you if you have any narcotics, he really means: Do you have any drugs that get you high, or are illegal? LSD would probabally be considered a narcotic by cops even though it's action is far from making you sleepy. Even METH is considered a narcotic!! Mabe that's because doctors can perscribe METHamphetamine to people who suffer from narcolepsy (uncontrollable fits of falling asleep) Either way... the word narcotic has been raped by law enforcement. It no longer means what it used to. I've herd hallucinogenic mushrooms called narcotics! Check out the dictionary and wiki for more info
