Is television a source of information?

Answer:
That depends what sort of information you are after. Television cannot tell us whether my brother likes peas, or where I should be at 3 o'clock next Tuesday, but we can learn about current affairs from news programmes, and nature programmes are full of factual information. And if we want to know what happened to Rachel in season 1 of Friends, television would be a very good source of that information!

However, we must be careful when using television as a source of facts. Much of this information is delivered through journalism, and we should be careful to separate the facts from the way they are presented to us, just like we do when taking information from newspapers, etc. (For example, if we are told that someone only got 90% of votes in an election, the fact is they got 90% - it is the journalist's opinion that 90% was not enough)
