Nobody knows how the Gordian Knot was tied, so it is not possible now to say if it was solvable. The elgend says that many intelligent people tried and failed, but that Alexander 'solved' it by cutting it with his sword - a classic example of lateral thinking - so we must assume that it was not solvable. But as knot-tying is a step-by-step process, this raises the question... "how is it possible to tie a knot which cannot be untied?" ... as surely the undoing of a knot is as simple as reversing the process.
I would like to try my knife on that Gordian knot!
Maniac Magee actually untied the knot, but Alexander the great scliced open th Gordian knot
There is no official world record for solving or disentangling the Gordian's knot, as it is a mythical and symbolic problem rather than a physical challenge with a standard criteria for completion.
The Gordian Knot is metaphor for a difficult problem which can be solved by "thinking outside the box". It is believed that Alexander the Great was able to untie King Gordian's knot by severing it with his sword.
