Is the LG 550 supposed to come with software I am trying to connect to my computer but I don't have any CD software. Was this a mistake or do I have to purchase the software separately?

No all you have to do is plug it into the computer and then once that is done go to Tools --> Mass Storage and click ok.

This will then allow you to browse your phone via the usb cable and show up as a drive letter in the my computer.

sorry sadly no , not all cell's come with cd's , often time like was said , they are recognized as removable storage...
