No, altho the Republican party is a lot more conservative than the Democrat party.
I have to disagree with the above sentence. The Republican Party is totally controlled by not only conservatives, but extremists like Michelle Bachman and the Tea Party that is very influential now. The moderats are now effectively extinct and have no influence to be a force to be reckon with any longer! The Democrats have 3 strong and competing factions, progressives, moderates and conservatives. The Democrats best represent the face of America with many different caucuses within the House of Representatives-the Black Caucus, the Hispanic Caucus, Pacific Islanders, the Progressive Caucus, etc... The GOP has only the Tea Party Caucus for the most part!
If you mean the Conservative Party in the UK, the Republicans share little in common with the British conservatives! Majority of the Tories would be ideologically closer to the Democrats than the GOP.
