Toyota 1MZ-FE – Everything You Need To Know - Drifted. com
Jun 12, 2023 ... ... fit 1MZ's into their skidders. ... So, although the 1MZ-FE is a non-interference engine, its successor, the 3MZ-FE, was an interference engine.
There is a big confusion about this online. Actually based on the research I have done some of them are interference and some of them are not. My source for saying this is the wikipedia page for MZ-FE engines:
If you go through this carefully, you will see in the introduction it says this generally about MZ-FE engines (all 3 generations):
"They feature cast aluminium pistons with an anti-friction resin coating (moly) and valve depressions that decrease the chance of valve-to-piston interference in case of timing belt failure on motors without VVT-i."
So MZ-FE engines are non interference unless they are a VVT-i type.
Let's go to the part titled 1MZ-FE. In the begining you see the applications of conventional 1MZ-FE which should be non-interference based on the introduction; those cars include:1994--2006 Toyota Camry (V6)1994--2003 Lexus ES 300 & Toyota Windom (Japanese domestic market)1996--2004 Toyota Avalon & 2000 Toyota Pronard (Avalon for Japanese domestic market)Toyota Harrier (non-US markets)1998--2000 Toyota Sienna1999--2003 Toyota Solara (V6)2000-- Toyota Estima (Japanese domestic market)
In the second half, there is a list of those cars with VVT-i 1MZ-FE engines which are interference engines, again based on the introduction:1999--2003 Lexus RX 300 (US market)2000--2003 Lexus ES 3002000--2004 Toyota Avalon2002--2003 Toyota Highlander/Kluger2001--2003 Toyota Sienna2002-- Toyota Alphard (Japanese domestic market)2003--2006 Toyota Camry (V6)
So as an example if you have a 97 Toyota Avalon it should be non interference. If you have a 2001 Toyota Avalon, you should check if the engine is VVT-i or not because it fits into both above lists for 1MZ-FE.
VVTI does NOT open the valves more than a non VVT engine. So they would have to do something else to the head to make it interference, like deck the head so that it's closer to the block.
Is the 08 3.5 toyota engine interference
The 3.3 liter V6 engine in a 2004 Toyota Sienna ( IS NOT ) an interference engine according to Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) The answer I get from Toyota dealership ... it is an "INTERFERENCE ENGINE" Thinking it is not an "interference engine" could be a very costly mistake.
is a 2004 toy tundra a interference engine
no it is not an interference engine
The 1998 Toyota Sienna does not have an interference engine. This is what makes the engine to be quite sensitive as interference engine design is easier and safer to replace.Ê
No it is not an interference engine
Yes you need the turbo transmission and you will need to fabricate one new motor mount, but it pretty much drops right in, and is actually lighter than the original four banger, because the 1mzfe is all alluminum.
Yes the 3.3 is an interference engine.
No, The VVTi 1MZFE will not work. The physical changes to the heads and the block to accomodate the added oil passages, as well as the added sencors and electrical interfaces will not work either. In addition, the ECU is completely different. It PHYSICALLY might "fit" but without a lot of additional work, it is just not realistic. It is cheaper to just purchase the Toyota with the VVTi.
No, the 3.4l V6 is not an interference engine.
No , the 3.0 liter V6 engine in a 1994 Toyota pickup is NOT an interference engine ( according to the Gates website )
It is a non interference engine.
