No, and the rest of the space shuttles are out of business. The last "run" happened a while ago, and NASA is going to start running a new system. They will be different than shuttles.
Discovery has not exploded and is still in active service. The shuttle Challenger disintegrated on January 28 1986, and Colombia on February 1 2003.
Discovery has not been destroyed, but is still undertaking missions. Only the space shuttle Challenger (January 28, 1986) and Columbia ( February 1, 2003) have been destroyed in accidents.
The Space Shuttle Discovery has recently been retired. The Shuttle made it first mission in August 30, 1984 and it's last mission was February 24, 2011.
no. sally ride was the first American women into space. but in 1986 the space shuttle the challenger exploded, killing everyone on board and she resumed her career as a teacher in physics.
Yes. The Space Shuttle Atlantis will be on display at the Kennedy Space Center.
She was a NASA astronaut, and the first woman in space.
Sally Ride wouldn't appreciate your question- she's still alive. If you are asking about Judy Resnick or Christa McAuliffe, they both were killed in the Challenger tragedy in 1986.
Yes.
Unlike other important points in history that have an image associated with them, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger doesn't have a single photo taken by a single photographer associate with it. There were many photos of the same event. This is because there were thousands of people viewing the launch that day, and many members of the press. Additionally, NASA has dozens (now hundreds) of movie and still cameras recording launches from many angles.
There are 6 space shuttles, 5 fully functional. Enterprise- Named after the Star Trek ship, it's not able to go to space. It can fly like a plane though. It's a test ship. Colombia- First shuttle to go into space. Blew up in 2003. Challenger- blew up in 1986 Discovery- STS-133, last mission for this shuttle. Atlantis- STS-135 last space shuttle mission scheduled this summer. Endeavour- STS-134, next mission, coming up soon. This was made as a replacement to Challenger in the 90's. All of them are reusable to go into space except for the blown up ones and Enterprise. Enterprise is still functional for flying on Earth.
A space shuttle still has to leave the atmosphere, we aren't building them in space. While leaving the atmosphere a space shuttle causes a lot of friction as it rubs against the air on the way up.
She was the first American woman in space! She was born on May 26th, 1951, in California. She served on two shuttle missions. She started playing tennis at age 10 and became an excellent tennis player. She first went to space in 1983 on the shuttle "Challenger". She is still alive at almost 61 years old.
