Is the cover over the spark plugs on a 2002 Kia Rio Cinco necessary or can you leave it off after changing the plugs?

In: Kia Rio
[Edit]

Answer

Yes, the cover prevents water, dirt etc from getting in the spark plug wells. This will cause misfiring and the ECM (computer) will register misfire events and the engine will run rough or stall. This cover also retains heat from the engine creating ideal operating conditions and this heat drys moisture that forms when the engine is off.
