In contrast to the above answer the great white is not the largest shark. The largest shark is in fact the whale shark which has been known to grow to over 40 feet, twice the maximum length of the great white shark. The great white shark weighs up to a maximum of 2250 kgs (5000 lbs)ie. 2.25 tonnes whereas the whale shark can weigh up to 13.6 tonnes.
