You'd think so, but no...
Oddly, no. Because cold sinks (while heat rises), you'd think that the bottom would be the coldest. But for that same reason, manufacturers generally put the cooling unit vent at the top in the back, so that the air can make its way down to the bottom, cooling as it goes. As a result, that top shelf actually gets the coldest air and sometimes can even freeze food that is placed all the way back.
