I had a Blackberry Bold 9700 before my current phone, the Samsung Galaxy II S Skyrocket (Android 2.3 Gingerbread Software). My Blackberry received emails almost instantly, while my Android takes at least 3 - 5 minutes to receivean email. I noticed this right away as I often email myself notes for exams as well as papers I print out at my university. My Blackberry would literally receive the emails I sent myself 3 or 4 seconds after I clicked 'send' on my computer. Just a note, I have AT&T, my Blackberry had '3G', my current Android has '4G LTE' (I don't live in an area with LTE service).
While I still prefer my Android, my Blackberry had such an easier and faster email platform. However, the internet browser on my Android makes the Blackberry's seem prehistoric (instant videos, uploads, downloads, can open virtually any webpage, Flash, etc). But if emails are of essential importance to you and a mediocre (at best) web browser will suit you, Blackberry's platform is far superior.
(Plus an actual physical keyboard makes responding to an email twice as fast)
