Yes, 'Angie' is a Rolling Stones song that was released as a single in August of 1973 and is featured on The Rolling Stones 'Goats Head Soup' album. 'Angie' is an acoustic guitar driven ballad that reached number 1 on the Billboard Chart in the United States and was number 5 in the United Kingdom. The Stones have sung it in many of their concerts. Keith Richards or Mick Jagger is the writer.
"Angie" is a song recorded by the Rolling Stones in late 1972, about the break-up of a romantic relationship. "Angie" does not appear to be one specific person, although the name comes from Keith Richard's daughter, who had just been born.
It's been a long-rumored that Jagger wrote it about David Bowie's wife Angela, but Jagger denies this. (David and Angela Bowie split up 8 years later, in 1980.) Some have suggested it was about the break-up of Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg, but the chronology doesn't work out: they had just had a daughter in 1972 and remained married throughout the 70s.
Mick Jagger broke up with Marianne Faithfull back in 1969; perhaps their breakup influenced the lyrics.
As for the song title: the name "Angie" was suggested by Keith Richards. In the liner notes to the compilation disc Jump Back, Richards says, "I'd recently had my daughter born, whose name was Angela, and the name was starting to ring around the house. 'Angie' just fitted."
I've always thought that 1-2 times in the song, Jagger sounds like he's saying "Andy" not "Angie" -- which I thought might be a veiled reference to Andy Warhol. But that's completely unsubstantiated, and the band's relationship with Warhol continued at least through their 1977 Love You Live album which Warhol designed the cover for, so it's not like they "broke up" with him.
