Is the state of Alaska bigger than Texas?

Answer:
Alaska is much larger than Texas.

Texas is about 262,000 square miles and Alaska is 572,000 square miles, meaning that if Alaska's land area were divided equally into two states then Texas would become the third largest state, rather than the second largest in the USA.
Alaska is actually larger than Texas, Montana, and California combined.

Much of the uncertain comparision involves the deception with general maps used without true scale, such as polling and data comparisions information. With Alaska so big, they just can't fit it to that, but I think they downsize the geography to reflect relative population, as well. Check out Google Maps to see for yourself. You'll actually find that you could fit Alaska from CA up to Washington State over to NE and on down to Texas, with the Aleutian Islands included. Virtually half the US, that big
Alaska is.

Note: Google Maps satellite view virtually shows Alaska 1/2 the US; however, with the spherical view and Alaska closer to the pole region, it's exaggerated size to the US. Therefore, fit the states into Alaska according to square miles. Assuming, the map view link included below is the best depiction.
