Yes, no, maybe, who knows.
String theory may be correct, or it may not. We really don't know enough to know for sure yet. It doesn't really explain anything we can actually observe any better than the Standard Model does, so a fair number of physicists regard it as a not-particularly-useful form of mathematical ... erm, "exercise."
