Is the supercharged 3.8 V-6 that GM is using in many of their 2005 models the same engine that is in the 1997 Buick Riviera?

[Edit]

Answer

YES IT IS. That motor has been around forever.

Answer

Yes and no... It is the same engine that's been around since the 70's.However, they have upgraded the engine many times due to more strict emission standards. So in a sense it's the same engine. But some of the new supercharged engines come with more horsepower due to a smaller pulley turning the supercharger, boasting the horsepower from 240 bhp back in 1997 to 260 bhp now. This does not apply to all of GM's cars. Since buick is using a 3.5 litre engine in their new La Crosse, they chose not to run the supercharged, but stick with the non-supercharged 3.8 engine as the base engine.
