There is no recovery for ADHD, since the person has had ADHD their entire life they have nothing to recover back to. Although ADHD doesn't go away as the person grows up, many of the symptoms do tend to midigate with age.

The most effective treatment for ADHD is medication and therapy together. Medication by itself can only take you so far and therapy by itself can only take you so far.

Usually the doctor will prescribe stimulant medication including Amphetamines(Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.) or Methlyphenidates(Ritalin, Concerta, etc.)

Your doctor will take a physical exam including an ECG, and a drug test to make sure these medications are safe for you.

Treated ADHD takes a lot of effort, medication, therapy, parent involvement, teacher involvment, and personal effort.

No. ADHD is just how some people's brains are wired. It is different, not bad. Being different can be challenging for some one who is ADHD in a society dominated by people who are not. For instance trying to sit through a 2 hour lecture with out spacing or acting up.

But there are good things too. Look up hyperfocus. When someone with ADHD brings this about to something constructive (writing a novel, solving a physics conundrum, etc.) the results can be phenomenal. The key is learning to channel ADHD. Trying to make it fit into a non-ADHD mold or acting like it is a disease or moral failing will only lead to failures.

Having it cured is not the correct term. But anyone with ADHD, if correctly diagnosed which type, could help the patients cope with the disorder. No, it cannot be cured. But it can be managed.

Psychosocial therapy, usually combined with medications, is the treatment approach of choice to alleviate ADHD symptoms.

Sometimes medication will be prescribed to treat the symptoms of ADHD, but there are other treatment options.

Psycho-stimulants used to treat ADHD can have some severe side-effects including addiction, depression, hallucinations, and violent behaviors.

Other treatment options include

  • one-on-one educational tutoring
  • changes in diet
  • changes in environment
  • regular exercise
  • activities that promote self-confidence.

How do you treat Add?

Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD, is an illness that results in difficulty paying attention, occasionally accompanied by impulsive behaviors and hyperactivity. There is no cure, but the symptoms can be reduced via medication, a change in diet, and counseling.

Can you get rid of Attention deficit disorder?

You can't get "rid" of it, it is a life-long disease. Now, it can be treated with certain drugs, but these do not cure it permanently, so you have to take them for the rest of your life. (unless you can do without medication)

Should a person with ADHD have children?

No. ADHD is a diagnosis that is made with a list of symptoms; these symptoms include restlessness, lack of focus, and fidgeting. These symptoms can be found in almost any child just being a 'kid'. The combination of symptoms and severity make the diagnosis of ADHD.

What is ADD and how is it different from ADHD?

ADHD has been named differently over time. In the early 1970s, it was known as hyperkinesis (from the Latin word for "superactive"). In the 1980s, it was called Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD. The term ADD (without the symptom of hyperactivity in the title) was used because hyperactivity is often, but not always, found with the disorder. Children who have the disorder without hyperactivity still struggle with impulsivity and inattention, but have more normal activity levels. However, since most people with ADHD have the symptom of hyperactivity, in 1987 the official name changed to and remains ADHD. There are varying types of ADHD. Children with ADD/ADHD can have difficulties at home, at school, and in relationships with friends and other children their age. ADD/ADHD has also been shown to have long-term adverse effects on school performance, career or job success, and social-emotional development. Because children with ADD/ADHD are not able to sit still and pay attention in school, they may have disciplinary problems, and they can be viewed as troublemakers by teachers and other students. They experience peer rejection and show a broad range of disruptive behaviors. Their academic and social problems can have far-reaching and long-term effects. These children have higher injury rates. As they grow older, children with untreated ADD/ADHD, in combination with conduct disorders, are at risk for drug abuse, antisocial behavior, and injuries of all sorts. Up to 70% of children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD will continue to have symptoms into adulthood. [The ADD information above is based on source material from the National Institute on Mental Health entitled "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Questions and Answers," published in March 2000.]

What are some symptoms of ADD?

You will notice that you can't sit still for a long time. Also you aren't patient and you talk above others. Talk to your local phycologist for more info on ADD or ADHD.

I have been told I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder Attention Deficit Disorder OCD and Narcissistic Personality Disorder Is it possible to have three or more mental disorders?

Yes. Sometimes these disorders can overlap, sometimes they can cause the other ones, and sometimes you are just cursed with them all. For instance, I supposedly have generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and treatment resistant depression. I genuinely feel that my anxiety issues lead to panic as well as depression. Ideally, if I could cure the anxiety disorder, my other disorders would improve or clear up completely. Your disorders don't seem quite as easily connected as mine, but lessening one will probably help the others.
