  • Apply Selsun Blue shampoo to affected area of skin at night (leaving it on over night). In the morning, shower and then repeat nightly until you notice your skin clearing. You can also help treat it with over-the-counter fungal cream, such as Lamsil and Tenactin.
  • Another method that helps some people with tinea veriscolor is to use apple cider vinegar (I used 5% apple cider vinegar). If the apple vinegar does not irritate your skin keep it on their for about fifteen minutes or so and it kills the fungus. Does not work with everyone. But it did for me. I heard others tried it online. Read about it before you try it.
  • I have had tines versicolor since I was 18 (and I am now 33). I finally got rid of it after using skin creams, pills and leaving selsen blue on overnight. Plus, those pills and cream are not good for your liver ((edit--absorption of creams through your skin into bloodstream is minimal, creams aren't a problem)). Finally, I decided just to use selsen blue as a body wash (avoiding the vaginal area) with a lufa sponge. I used it every time I showered for a week straight and then once a week after that. I didn't leave it on overnight - just used it like a body wash. I know it is only a control, but I have not had a reoccurence snice. And I can now tan without having spots! First time in 15 years!
  • I tried the Selsen shampoo before as a treatment, and it kept coming back. An added thing to consider is while this may not help all people, do some research on your own- an alternating use of treatments (creams, sprays) may be useful for getting rid of cases that are stubborn to get rid of. I think it doesn't give the fungus a chance to build an immunity to one kind of treatment.

It does i used terbinafine for a fungal infection i had on my scalp and it cleared the tinea versacolor on my skin. I have previously been diagnosed with tinea versacolor and just had not had the money to go back to the dermatologist for another prescription so when i had the scalp issue and started taking the terbinafine it cleared up the tinea as well but unfortunately it did return but it cleared up for a while and maybe because i didn't take the whole prescription. Hope this helps
