Is there a death benefit paid to a survivor when someone is hit and killed by another car?

[Edit]

Answer

The surviving family members have the option of filing a wrongful death lawsuit depending upon who was found at fault in such an unfortunate happening. In many cases any dependent minor children of the deceased are eligible for Social Security benefits and possible SSI as well. It would be advisable to read or have someone go over all documents that might pertain to applicable assets or benefits, such as insurance policies (vehicle and life) Workman's Compensation coverage (through employer) pension plans, and so forth. Some states have victim compensation funds, but they generally apply to a death that was caused by a criminal act.
