LOTS INDEED A surprising example..Adultery called for the death penalty. The reason why the Bible doesn't acknowledge an adulterer marrying another is because it was a given that they would be put to death for that sin.

Greek Scriptures There may be (but I did not see) references above to the Greek Scriptures. Stoning was a common and accepted form of punishment in Jesus' day. There is the famous story of the stoning of the adulteress where Jesus says "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone," but I don't believe that Jesus ever speaks out against stoning, and it would be unreasonable to assume that the practice ended with this event.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

The wages of SIN is DEATH; so the Bible says [Rom.6:23]. But, the verse finishes with: "...;but the GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our LORD.

Few people seem to understand that "SIN is the TRANSGRESSION {the BREAKING} OF THE LAW" [I John 3:4]. And that the breaking of the law requires a PENALTY... corrective PUNISHMENT. In the case of God's Law [the Ten Commandments] that penalty is DEATH.

Nor does the advent of Jesus Christ negate that law. To DISOBEY HIM [to SIN] requires the DEATH PENALTY:

"YE ARE MY FRIENDS, IF ye DO WHATSOEVER I COMMAND YOU... " (John 15:14).

"THIS IS MY COMMANDMENT, that YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU." (verse 12)

"These things I COMMAND YOU, that YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER." (verse 16)

Too many false religious denominations of so-called "Christianity" think Jesus forgives anything and everything. But Jesus requires anyone who would attain Eternal Life [His GIFT TO HUMANITY] to KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS... OBEY the Ten Commandments... to NOT SIN.

"...'if thou wilt ENTER INTO LIFE, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS." (Matt.19:17)

Jesus then went on to demonstrate the Selfless Love that He demands of all who claim Him as their LORD, King and Savior.

"Greater Love hath no man than this, that A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." (John 15:13)

Jesus never abrogated the DEATH PENALTY. He demonstrated how anyone might NOT TO HAVE TO SUFFER IT!

"...that REPENTANCE and REMISSION OF SINS should be preached in His Name AMONG ALL NATIONS, beginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 25:47)

There is indeed a death penalty in the Bible... AND IT'S STILL IN EFFECT!

And when Jesus returns with His Kingdom and sits on His throne in Jerusalem... the nations of the world will realize just how "in-effect" the death penalty truly is:

"...the Son of Man SHALL COME IN HIS GLORY, and ALL THE HOLY ANGELS WITH HIM, then HE SHALL SIT UPON THE THRONE OF HIS GLORY... Then shall the King say unto them on His Right Hand, 'Come, YE BLESSED OF MY FATHER, inherit THE KINGDOM PREPARED FOR YOU from the foundation of the world.'" (Matt.25:31 & 34).

"But THOSE MINE ENEMIES, which WOULD NOT THAT I SHOULD REIGN OVER THEM, bring hither, and SLAY THEM BEFORE ME.'" (Luke 19:27)

There will be zero tolerance for disobedience in the coming global Kingdom of KING Jesus Christ. He will accept nothing less than TOTAL SELFLESS LOVE from all of His creation [yes... the Bible reveals that we were specially CREATED by God to be born into His Immortal, Divine Family, and that we were not a mindless cosmic ACCIDENT].

Mankind's mortal nature is one of "selfishness and rebelliousness to authority" [any authority whether it's toward God's Laws or man's]. It's our nature that this life is teaching us to OVERCOME IN THE SPIRIT. To learn to become SELFLESS [not selfish]. And to learn how to OBEY THE LAW [not break it].

And God's immutable, eternal law, of the penalty of DEATH for disobedience to His Laws remains in full force for all who "would not that He should reign over them."
