See "Related Questions" below for information about Ignition Control Modules on 1986-1995 Taurus/Sables.
On a 1996 Ford Taurus the ignition control module is part of the drivetrain control module. To change the ignition control module you have to change out the computer. It is located behind the motor on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Look for a screw holding in a wiring plug with a dozen or so wires. The drivetrain control module has a couple of nuts holding it in place and looks like a cdrom when removed. Good luck. John
A 1998 Ford Taurus uses the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ( EDIS ) with a coil pack , so there is no distributor
if there is a DIS module (side of the air intake, pass side) then there is no distributor DIS = distributorless ignition system
There isn't one. All 2003 Ford Taurus use a coil pack under the control of the Powertrain Control Module instead of a distributor.
Yes. The 2000-2003 Sable uses a PCM PATS System. Only dealer or locksmith can program these keys into the vehicle. If you have 2 working keys, you can program more by yourself. See "Related Questions" below. Although written to the Windstar, the procedure is the same for the Taurus/Sables
There is no longer an ignition "distributor" on today's engine.Electrical distribution is handled by the:Powertrain Control Module (PCM),camshaft position sensor (CPS)ignition coil that looks like a rectangular distributor. NOTE: 2000-2005 Duratec engines use Coil-on-Plug (COP) in lieu of a coilpackBy the way, there is also no longer an ignition control module - that job has been passed off to the PCM.The "How do you know which wire goes where on the ignition coil and spark plugs on a Taurus - Sable" question below introduces the basics of ignition distribution - hopefully it will help folks transition from the old arrangement to the new.
All Taurus & Sables are front wheel drive.
The Owners Manual cites green (conventional) and yellow (long-life) for Taurus / Sables
The 1996 Taurus/Sables came equipped with v6 engines, so there are 6 cylinders total.
See "Related Questions" below for a couple questions specific to first-generation Taurus/Sables
The 1996-1998, and much of the 1999 model Taurus & Sables are virtual twins of each other - making the parts highly interchangeable.
It's E.D.I.S. ( Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ) with 1 coil pack for the 6 cylinders , so no distributor coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5
yes Not the 1996-1999 models. I asked that very question and found out the back-ends of the Taurus / Sables are very different.
