There are two ferry boats that cross Lake Michigan.
The S.S. Badger www.ssbadger.com and the www.lake-express.com.
The Badger is the last remaining (train) car ferry in operation on the Great Lakes. It travels between Ludington MI, and Manitowoc WI during the summer months. It no longer transports rail cars but people transport their cars, trucks, busses, and motorcycles in droves every summer. Its a floating museum!
The Lake Express only transports passenger sized vehicles, but it is much faster - and a little more expensive. The Lake Express travels between Muskegon MI and Milwaukee WI during the summer. The Lake Express is only three years old.
No, there isn't. The only car/passenger ferries across Lake Michigan are east/west: Milwaukee WI/Muskegon MI (Lake Express) and Manitowoc WI/Ludington MI (SS Badger). For what's worth, whether you take the west or east side of the Lake, the drive through Michigan is pretty nice.
