Is there any treatment to ease the symptoms of frequent urination pollakiuria in child age 4? |
[Edit] |
Answer
Pollakiuria is extra-ordinary daytime urinary frequency, that occurs every 5-10 miutes in children of pre-school age.
There may be multiple etiologies behind this clinical presentation such as, diabetes, infection, an anatomical anomaly, excessive ingestion of caffeine beverages, or anxiety. In the majority of cases, an organic cause is rarely found.
Therefore, an incentive program (stickers), eliminating caffeine beverages, handing the responsibility of cleaning up back to the child, and taking a low-key parental approach solves the problem. Once in awhile medcation may be implemented for a brief period.
However, a behavioral approach (as mentioned above) should not be undertaken until a pathologic process has been ruled out.
