No no no no! This is an urban myth! Okay, well kinda there is. But only because of the myth. Because of the prevalance of this myth, in association with several charitable organisations, many are giving the recycling value of the tabs if you turn them into drop centers. Ronald Mcdonald house is one and they get $0.50 per lb of tabs. It takes almost 1000 tabs to make a lb. The tabs are made of the same metal as the rest of the can. Go ahead and leave the tab on the can and collect the cans to drop off as aluminum for recycling, collect the money and dontate that to Ronald McDonald Houses.
