I was one of the first Americans in the world to water ski and I learned from the person who conceived the sport. I can tell the story to anyone interested and it started in Europe at the end of WWII

You are on skis and that's about it. I suppose some of the balance required is the same but it's really different positioning with your center of gravity and posture. Here's my suggestion. Get out and try both and let us know what you think! Even if you don't have a boat or equipment you can rent everything you need. Enjoy it and stay safe.
