It will be red, hot and sore if it's infected.
Boil water in the kettle then pour out a small amount and stir in some salt to dissolve. let the water cool a bit or you'll burn yourself then using cotton wool wash around the earring with the salt water. Salt is a natural antiseptic so this will help to clean the piercing. Repeat this a few times a day.
If it doesn't get any better you may need to seek medical advice and remove the earring.
