People are often confused by the fact that Allen hosted The Steve Allen Show (a weekly show) from 1956 to 1960, and The New Steve Allen Show (nightly) from 1961-1964. The New Steve Allen Show had a format similar to The Tonight Show, but was a competing show. NBC had him quit Tonight!, a successful show, so he could focus his energy on the weekly show, which competed with Ed Sullivan.
He married Irene Paar twice but later divorced then he remarried her and divorced again then he married Miriam Wagner (1943--2004) and they had a daughter named Randy. And he died in 2004
