If you pay attention to the episodes they will actually talk about towns that exist. One episode Arlen plays football games and has track meets against Belton and Temple. They all seem to border a town called Killeen, TX. You have Fort Blanda which is where Bill is a SGT Barber in the Army. I am assuming that they are talking about Fort Hood, TX. In the episode where Bill dates the former governor Ann Richards of Texas, she makes the comment that her driver can't seem to find the on ramp to 35 South which runs from Dallas to Austin. In another episode Bill gets drunk and steals a tank from the base. Fort Hood is the home of the 4th ID and 1st CAV. WELCOME TO THE GREAT PLACE!!!! KILLEEN ROCKS! kind of. At least there are large cities you can visit near by.

Other episodes, however, place Arlen in other areas--for instance, Khan (for much of the later seasons) commutes to Houston. Houston is also where Boomhauer drifted downriver to (where he was institutionalized). Other episodes have them traveling to Mexico and back during a work day. And when Tillie brought her friends from Arizona to Port Aransas, Arlen was on the way. All of which means the show didn't want us to be able to pin down exactly where Arlen was.

There also was the episode when bobby and hank went to the superbowl with the guys, and said was about an hour away which means it cant be close to Houston, arlen, tx or any of the above cities a possibility but probably not.

All I know is that I would love to have these people as neighbors. Seems like I always get stuck with nothing but Bills and Khans.
