There is no right answer to this question. Each technology comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, each specific TV model has its own unique characteristics.
General LCD advantages:

General plasma advantages:
* deeper blacks * less motion blur * less expensive to get large size
Recently, the gap between the technologies has narrowed significantly. Some newer LCDs have excellent blacks and very little motion blur. Some newer plasmas have very little image retention and are more resistant to burn-in.
The best way to select a TV is to go to the store and view them. Be wary of in-store calibration differences between sets; ask if you can adjust the settings.
