What is the summary of Khmer empire?

Khmer Empire era was a greatest period in Cambodian history. Cambodia owned many lands that present day are Thailand, Laos, Vietnam (most parts). The Khmer Empire was one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia, based in what is now Cambodia and flourishing from the 9th to the 15th century. The empire, which grew out of former kingdom of Chenla, at times ruled over and/or vassalized parts of modern-day Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Its greatest legacy is Angkor, the site of the capital city during the empire's zenith. Angkor bears testimony to the Khmer empire's immense power and wealth, as well as the variety of belief systems that it patronised over time. The empire's official religions included Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism, until Theravada Buddhism prevailed, even among the lower classes, after its introduction from Sri Lanka in the 13th century. Modern researches by satellites have revealed Angkor to be the largest pre-industrial urban center in the world.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Empire orhttp://www.zum.de/whkmla/region/seasia/khmer.html

What was the cause of the destruction of angkor what?

I had read the history of Angkor Era.There was not clear why the AngKor Wat destructed. But there were some reasons that i can share with you from my reading. One of the main reason is War between the royal family. They fought for the power and disunity within the government which caused the country weaken.Beside there were between neightbor countries such as Siem, which is Thailand now.It is interesting to know that religion played a major role for the weaked of Angkor Era.During Angkor Era, the King considered as the god king.they were Hindu that time.So people were so devoted to their king and country. They work hard to build the country to please the king ,to praise the god.As you have seen the temples in Siem Reap. They were significant to the Khmer people. However the Budism were introduced in Khmer kingdom after the one of the king ascended his throne.he is very devoted Budis. He orderd people to destroy the Hindu temple and changed their religion practice.Budism is more selflessness, teach people not much concentrated with their world accomplishment. They were more relaxed and contented with their lives.Because of these believes. It made people lazy and much much accomplish.Eventually the Angkor Era get weaker and weaker.
